Occupational Therapy

Occupational Therapy helps people of all ages live more active, independent, and fulfilling lives by addressing a wide range of physical, sensory, cognitive, and emotional challenges. It’s all about finding practical solutions and building skills that support your everyday activities—whether that’s caring for yourself, connecting with loved ones, or thriving at school, work, or within your community.

At Insight Therapies, our Occupational Therapists take a personalised approach, working closely with you to understand your unique needs and goals. Together, we’ll develop strategies that promote well-being and empower you to live your best life.

At its core, Occupational Therapy is about helping you engage meaningfully with the world around you, and at Insight Therapies, we’re here to walk that journey with you.

Ongoing Occupational Therapy Sessions

Our ongoing OT sessions are personalised to address the specific goals identified during the intake process. Depending on individual needs, sessions may involve:

  • One-on-one therapy
  • Family or carer involvement
  • Collaboration with educators, services, or support workers

Each session focuses on practical skills for daily activities, using evidence-informed approaches while remaining attuned to individual needs at the time of the session. Some of our approaches include:

  • Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT)
  • Mindfulness practices
  • Sensory modulation strategies
  • Task analysis and environmental modifications
  • Theraplay-inspired play therapy
  • Zones of Regulation
  • Neurodiversity-affirming social skills programs

These tailored sessions support individuals in various environments, including home, school, workplace, or community settings.

Outreach Services

Our outreach services bring Occupational Therapy support directly to familiar environments such as homes, schools, child care centres, workplaces, or community settings. This approach allows for:

  • Observing and addressing challenges in real-life contexts
  • Collaborating with teachers, carers, or employers
  • Implementing practical strategies where they are needed most

Outreach services ensure that interventions are relevant and seamlessly integrated into daily routines, promoting meaningful and sustainable outcomes.

Comprehensive Reports and Support Services

Reports are available as needed, tailored to your goals or funding requirements. Examples of reports we offer include:

  • Functional Capacity Assessments (FCA): Evaluate an individual support needs and recommend the appropriate level of funding to achieve their goals. These assessments, required by the NDIA, include a face-to-face component and input from relevant parties. A detailed report is provided for NDIS submission, outlining necessary support areas and strategies.
  • Sensory Reports: Identify sensory processing challenges and offer practical strategies for regulation and engagement in daily activities. These reports help inform therapy plans and environmental modifications.
  • NDIS End-of-Plan/Progress Reports: Track progress against therapy goals and outline recommendations for continued support. These reports ensure funding applications reflect evolving needs and achievements, supporting NDIS review processes. Closure Reports: Summarise therapy outcomes, achievements, and future recommendations, marking the end of a therapy journey.

Every individual is unique; therefore, an assessment is key to identifying their specific needs and goals. Our OTs use a combination of standardised and non-standardised assessments and observations to gain a thorough understanding, allowing us to set clear goals and recommend personalised treatment options.

We also offer behind-the-scenes support to complement therapy. This includes communicating with educators and other professionals involved, creating personalised resources like visual aids or social stories, exploring assistive tools and technologies, and providing consultation via phone or email. These services ensure continuity and reinforce progress outside of sessions, supporting a well rounded approach to care.

Initial Intake Session

The Initial Intake Session is the first step in our Occupational Therapy process and is an opportunity for individuals, parents, or carers to discuss the concerns that have led them to seek support and to create a plan to address these with thier therapist.

This collaborative session helps us to reate a personalised plan for your therapy and forms an essential part of your therapeutic treatment ensuring the best possible outcomes. In this session you and your therapist will explore:

              • Personal history and diagnosis
              • Current strengths and challenges
              • Formal and informal supports currently being accessed
              • Goals and hopes for future outcomes
              • Planning for therapeutic work to achieve your goals

True success in occupational therapy lies not only in overcoming challenges but in the process of fostering resilience, enhancing adaptability, and empowering individuals to lead meaningful lives despite obstacles. This journey reflects the profession’s commitment to holistic care and the celebration of incremental progress.
